Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist
The Hawrelak Gut and Microbiome Clinic - Lead Associate

Kate began her studies in natural medicine in 2004 after spending a number of years travelling abroad, experiencing life and learning about herself. After completing Advanced Diplomas in both Naturopathy and Western Herbal Medicine, Kate went into part time clinical practice while completing her Bachelor of Health Science in Complementary Medicine in 2011.
Kate has been a member of Dr. Jason Hawrelak's Gut and Microbiome Clinic Team since April 2018, working under the guidance and mentorship of Dr Jason Hawrelak. Kate's previous naturopathic studies sparked her interest in gut health and after being awarded the opportunity to mentor under Dr.
Hawrelak she continued to grow this interest. As one of our most senior members of Dr. Hawrelak's team, Kate completed a two year intensive mentorship period with Dr. Hawrelak, treating over 200 patients ongoing within the program while under Dr. Hawrelak's direct supervision and guidance. Kate now operates more independently within the program and is proficient and experienced in working within Dr. Hawrelak's paradigm of care. She possesses an intricate knowledge and understanding of his treatment protocols. Kate is now in a mentoring and teaching role within The Hawrelak Gut and Microbiome Clinic team, mentoring Dr. Hawrelak's Associates and Senior Associates. Kate has worked with many patients from different countries around the world, allowing her to develop a deep understanding of the role of the gut microbiome in health. She has supported patients with a range of complex GIT issues enabling them to recover their health and expand their often limited diets. Some of the areas in which Kate has extensive experience include the following:
-
Crohns Disease
-
Ulcerative Colitis
-
J-Pouches
-
SIBO
-
Intestinal Permeability

Compelled by a desire help others, Kate has always been happiest in clinical practice supporting her patients to live balanced and healthful lives. She is a passionate individual who believes in educating her patients to listen to their own bodies to manage their long-term health.
While Kate has had success in treating people of all ages, she has a fondness for working with older people, and helping them enjoy health well into their later years. She is committed to working collaboratively, and reducing the need for pharmaceutical intervention for chronic health problems by developing achievable dietary and lifestyle protocols with appropriate nutritional and herbal support.
It was while completing her studies in natural medicine that Kate developed a keen understanding of what it means to practice holistically - that is, paying attention to not only the physical body, but also to mental and emotional health. Understanding that what we think and feel plays a role in our ability to be well. It was this principle of holistic care that resonated deeply with Kate, and still remains key to her approach to healing.

Since starting with Goulds Natural Medicine, Kate has regularly taken part in clinical mentoring with Dr. Hawrelak and other experienced and skilled practitioners, and has found it to be a valuable contribution to her practice, enabling her to grow as a practitioner. Naturopathic mentoring helps practitioners feel less isolated in practice and fosters an environment of continuous learning which is highly beneficial to improving patient outcomes. In seeing how mentoring improved her own practice, Kate is now offering practitioner mentoring, specifically in the area of Gut and Microbiome Health. Mentoring sessions can be booked for 60 or 90 mins for general questions, or for support with a specific case (in which case details are requested to be sent through to Kate ahead of time).
In her spare time, Kate is an avid surfer and enjoys outdoor activities that allows her to stay active with her young family. She enjoys cooking and creating healthy family meals that can be adapted to any budget. She looks forward to doing postgraduate studies in counselling to better support her patients in a holistic care model.
